A temporary exhibition space that uses aerodynamic forms to cool the interior via natural wind.
The Desert Wind Pavilion is a temporary structure designed for the Dubai Art Fair. In a climate often dominated by energy-intensive air conditioning, our pavilion proposes an ancient solution: passive wind cooling. The form consists of high-tension fabric sails oriented toward the prevailing Shamal winds, funneling the breeze into a central terra-cotta chamber.
Inside this chamber, a series of porous ceramic pipes filled with water utilize evaporative cooling to drop the temperature by 10-12 degrees Celsius without a single watt of electricity. The sails shift slightly with the wind, creating a kinetic architecture that breathes with the desert environment. It is a project that looks to the past to find a sustainable future for the Gulf region.
