Research

A modular research station floating on the Amazon river, dedicated to rainforest conservation.

The Floating Bio-Dome Lab is a response to the urgent need for conservation research in the Amazon. To avoid any permanent impact on the rainforest floor, the laboratory is designed as a series of modular pods floating on recycled plastic pontoons. The geodesic dome structure provides the maximum volume with the minimum amount of material, housing a fully self-sufficient ecosystem for visiting scientists.

Rainwater is collected, filtered, and recirculated through a hydroponic system, while solar-integrated glass provides all the energy for the laboratory’s high-tech equipment. When a research site is finished, the station can be decoupled and towed to a new location, leaving the riverbed exactly as it was found. It is architecture as a guardian of the landscape.
