A brutalist-inspired headquarters focusing on heavy geometry and rhythmic window placements.
In Berlin’s industrial district, the Monolith Office Complex stands as a defiant tribute to raw materiality. Drawing inspiration from 1960s Brutalism, the building is constructed from pre-cast, sandblasted concrete with deep-set, rhythmic apertures. These recesses serve a dual purpose: providing natural solar shading for the interiors while creating a dramatic play of shadow on the massive facade.
The interior contradicts the “heavy” exterior with a surprisingly light and flexible open-plan layout. By concentrating all structural loads in the external walls and a central concrete core, we eliminated the need for internal columns. This allows the Vanguard Group to reconfigure their departments as their team grows, ensuring the building remains functional for decades to come.
